Short answerUndervalued domains come from expired-domain auctions, registrar closeouts, names dropping back to public registration, motivated sellers clearing portfolios, and bundles sold for less than the sum of their parts. Compare every candidate with reported sales before bidding.

Where do traders find cheap domains?
| Source | How it works | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Expired-domain auctions | Names that owners did not renew go to auction at registrar partners | Bidding wars push prices to retail |
| Closeouts | Unsold expired names offered at a low fixed price | Most are weak; be selective |
| Drops | Names that finish deletion become registrable again | Drop-catching services win the best ones |
| Motivated sellers | Investors clearing portfolios at wholesale | Check every name, not the average |
| Bundles | Groups of related names sold together | Value the best one or two names, not the count |
How do I know a deal is really a deal?
Find at least three reported sales of similar names. If your buy price is a small fraction of those, and the name passes the pre-purchase checks, it is a candidate. If you cannot find any comparable sale, assume it is worth little.
Domain bundles are a common way to buy several related names at a wholesale price; Domain Dumpster Dive lists bundles if you want examples.

What is a dropped domain?
A domain that expired, went through the grace and redemption periods without being renewed, and was deleted, making it available to register again.
Are expired domains worth buying?
Some are. Expired names can come with backlinks and type-in traffic, but check their history for spam and penalties before buying.
What are domain closeouts?
Expired names that did not sell at auction, offered for a low fixed price before they are deleted.
